TheWeeklyBaubleAnabelaChanPinterestBlogAs it seems we have plunged straight into the frigid depths of winter, an escape in jewels is a most welcome diversion! With this in mind, The Weekly Bauble takes us away to the exotic orient through the dreamy, romantic fantasy world of Anabela Chan.

While Anabela is London and Paris based, her extensive travels and nature are infused in her elegant, sculptural jewels. Initially she trained as an architect, specializing in print and embroidery design, and worked with the likes of Sir Richard Rogers, Alexander McQueen and All Saints. Following this, she returned to jewelry and completed her studies at the Royal College of Art, winning 5 prestigious awards. Her flagship boutique has just recently launched in London’s Ham Yard Hotel, where one can immerse in her marvelous menagerie of beautiful art objects and jewelry.

Our bauble is Anabela’s Emerald Bloomingdale Bracelet from the Fleurs d’Elixir collection, inspired by exotic orchids. The bejeweled flower, hand pave-set with 306 white lab-grown diamonds in 360 degrees, is also a detachable brooch.

THE SKINNY:

38 carats white lab-grown diamonds
green agate beads
18 karat white gold and silver

Price available upon request

The bracelets are also designed with amethyst, ruby, and black onyx. The matching ring, earrings and necklace are available to complete a stunning suite.

The Weekly Bauble that I share today is uniquely beautiful inside and out!

Leon Megé‘s luminous moonstone ring literally glows from within by way of five custom cut sapphire cabochons set in a platinum and rose gold patterned cup. This diamond encrusted cradle is a special secret treasure – one that is meant only for the eyes of the lovely lady who has the pleasure of wearing it. It is this delicate and airy aesthetic that defines Leon’s elegant forms. His approach to celebrating stones through limited use of precious metal, employing centuries-old European techniques, and philosophy of minimalism and precision characterize his signature.

This beautiful bauble certainly has captured these curious eyes!

THE SKINNY:

14.65 carat moonstone
cabochon sapphires
micro pave diamonds
18 karat rose gold
platinum

Price available upon request

HowToMakeDiamondsCool

Last night I had the immense pleasure of attending a talk titled “America First: The Importance of the US Market” by the charming and disarming Martin Rapaport. Among the many compelling points he covered were: unsustainable rough prices, “the last 18 inches“, over-grading diamonds, differentiation, and the importance of branding.

For me, the most curious question he posed was: how to make diamonds “cool”?

While the industry is (somewhat) no longer dismissing the millennial generation through measured social engagement initiatives, Mr. Rapaport’s question challenges us to dig deep. Clearly, no one will have answers anytime soon on how to make diamonds “cool”, but I spy a beautiful challenge…

From The City of Light comes these sparkling “Make A Wish” Mini Ear Cuff and Earrings by Morphée Joaillerie.

Pamela Hastry’s pieces are whimsical, elegant and always charming. They tell stories reminiscent of memory and transform dreams into reality. The name sake of her brand “Morphée” is the Greek God of dreams, whose name signifies “the one who transforms” or “the one that reproduces forms”. Her highly symbolic pieces blend nature, escape and fairy tales in a way that re-interprets how we wear jewelry.

Follow her ethereal world on Instagram, where you will find other “Make A Wish” baubles from the collection and beyond!

This evening was a wonderfully pleasurable one, surrounded by an array of beautiful and curious objects at The International Fine Art & Antiques Show at the Park Avenue Armory. What made it even more extraordinary was a tour through a selection of the exceptional exhibitors, hosted by Natalie Bos of Jewels du Jour and an engaging talk by esteemed historian and jewelry curator Clive Kandel. The evening culminated at the Hancocks space, where these amazing jewels were discovered! The show is up through the Thursday, October 23rd, if you are curious…

Discover a brilliant story about a man and his legacy revealed though rich narrative and dynamically animated historical visuals. This cleverly crafted video celebrates Harry Winston’s birthday and his sensational passion (and obsession) for diamonds.

Also worthy of note: on November 18th to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Harry Winston’s donation of the Hope Diamond to the Smithsonian, the world’s most famous gemstone was mounted in a new setting titled “Embracing Hope”.  A terrific documentary titled “Mystery of the Hope Diamond” on the Smithsonian Channel reveals the history, science, secrets and curse of this legendary blue diamond.

“Are not the most beautiful things made to circulate?” These words were spoken by Coco Chanel in 1932, and like so many things she had a hand in creating, the sentiment is timeless. The video below is the 3rd of the “Inside Chanel” series titled “Chanel and the Diamond”. It speaks of not only the history of the importance diamonds play in fashion, but also the inspiration of the collection and sensation it caused… of course…
