Mary Kratzanou, Swarovski, Swarovski crystals, Fall 2012, Prints, Hyper color

Forget sugar, spice and everything nice, Miss Mary Katrantzou has other things on her mind: typewriters, spoons, and dragon flies! Ever dynamic with her use of prints, she elevates such everyday subject matter into beautifully beguiling games of “identify the object”. Hint: let color be your guide. Her highly technical, mobile constructions are marvels to behold in motion as she continues to reimagine the silhouette. Embroidery and embellishment affect quite a sensation (as Swarovski crystals often do) in conjunction with her signature hyper-toned color palette. Mary, have mercy….

Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel, Boy Chanel, Boy Chanel handbag collection, Flap Bag, Boy Flap Bag, Alice Dellal, Luxury, Fashion

Someone has it quite rough… or maybe she just plays that way? Alice Dellal, the anything but tragic girl who is the face of the Boy Chanel handbag collection poses in a curious tale only Karl could pull off. The bags, iconically beautiful in all their shark, alligator, iridescent, quilted or patent leather splendor are truly magnificent and appear to bear the burdon of a glamourous life far better than Alice.

Elegance, seduction and luxury has never been so well defined in a single mark as that of René Gruau’s hand. The graceful ease of line, playful use of positive and negative space, and sensuous color conveys a refined desire that continues to leave an everlasting impact on the fashion and advertising world… and me. His collaboration with Christian Dior in the 40’s and 50’s made another mark on recent fashion history when his great work was the inspiration for Dior’s Spring 2011 Couture Collection. Ah, to walk in this magic would be truly sublime.
